COMPOSTING FACTS TO KNOW IN THE U.S.:

-
30-40% of all food produced is wasted.
-
Approximately 25% of the 167 million tons of garbage in landfills is food waste.
-
Organic waste in landfills generates methane.
-
Composting allows waste to decompose with access to oxygen, releasing carbon dioxide instead of methane. This is important because methane absorbs heat from the sun at 21-70x the rate of carbon dioxide (thus warming our planet faster).
-
Compost is a powerful tool for remediating soil, reforestation, and habitat revitalization.
